Harbour of Stein
The harbour in Stein is important for the sustainability transition of Chemelot. The current capacity for transporting raw materials must be expanded. This means working with more ships and increasing transport via the already used safe underground pipeline connection to the plants. Part of the expansion also includes strengthening the connection between the harbour in Stein and Chemelot. This with the aim of having fewer trucks travelling on public roads and thus improving the quality of the living environment.
The Harbour of Stein will eventually become Chemelot's sustainable logistics hub. It will be the crucial place where the supply of recycled raw materials and the removal of products will soon take place via a zero emission method. So without the emission of exhaust gases. This will be done through various systems. For example, with electrically self-propelled vehicles, via rail and the already mentioned pipes. The application of the best available techniques, the reduction of CO2 emissions, particulates and nitrogen and the decrease in traffic nuisance will improve the quality of the environment. A more pleasant residential and living environment is thus created. In 2040, the residential areas and cores around Chemelot will therefore be green, climate-proof and easily accessible. In this process, local residents are asked to actively help think about interventions and solutions. Solutions that can be implemented with help and money from an environment fund. Not words, but deeds.
When
This project will run until 2040.
